Laying the rumors to rest, Sony confirms British actor Tom Holland as the next Spider-Man! Read more about the new casting after the break.
After the announcement that the next Spider-Man will be featured in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, rumors and predictions were flying as to whom the next web-slinger would be played by. Many were hoping for an actor of a different skin color, like Donald Glover, but it looks like Sony decided to pass on that and go with a more familiar type of actor.
Sony’s last Spider-Man, Andrew Garfield, is also white and British-born, which means there won’t be an American in the American-hero role since Tobey Maguire in 2007. Holland also does not have many feature films under his belt, the last one being the British indie How I Live Now (2013).
We’ll have to wait and see if Holland steps up to one of the early heroes that revitalized Marvel’s presence in Hollywood!
