You heard right! On the heels of Paul Feig’s all-female Ghostbusters reboot coming out next year, Sony is showing an intent to make the Ghostbusters franchise a new household name again for a younger generation. First on achieving that goal is getting a counterpart, second Ghostbusters movie out the door, and considering Channing Tatum is going to be set to produce, it’s likely we’ll see him as one of the ghostbusting team!
The new production company under Sony responsible for the franchising of the Ghostbusters series is called Ghostcorps and will be headed by the original Ghostbusters creators Ivan Reitman and Dan Aykroyd. There’s certainly going to be a lot of pressure from the fans of the originals, who will be sincerely hoping that the two that gave us the first GB will stay true to the roots and not go too off the rails.
We have yet to see what Paul Feig’s GB story will entail or how it’ll turn out. There’s no word yet on what the story for the second GB movie after that will be or whether it will still be a part of the same universe vs. a standalone movie.
Regardless, revamping the original for a new generation will be tough, and there’s already been some backlash about the look of the new cast, but we’re hoping it turns out well!
