With The Nice GuysNeighbors: 2, and Love & Friendship, holding three of the top five spots, last week’s Monday Box Office Breakdown was a solid indication of our members’ comedic sentiments! And this week, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping delivered! Claiming the number one spot with 20.56% of member check-ins, the Judd Apatow production was popular among members, who shared their excitement on the MoviePass Twitter page.

Despite a certified fresh Rotten Tomatoes score, the film debuted at #8, at the domestic box office, with a weekend gross of $4.63 million. Perhaps, it was The Lonely Island fandom, that inspired MoviePass members’ support of the film. After all, 152.7 million YouTube views of Jack Sparrow definitely indicates a strong fan base.

In second place was the silver screen adaptation of the Jojo Moyes’s novel, Me Before You, starring Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones). Accounting for 15.87% of member check-ins, this romantic drama was a close second! Apparently, our members wanted a good cry, almost as much as they wanted a good laugh. We definitely cried a little….okay, we cried a LOT!

Me Before You

Despite mostly negative reviews , members journeyed to the theater, with tissues in-hand, prepared for a tear-inducing experience–a testament to the power of cinema! During its opening weekend, the film debuted in third place at the domestic box office, earning $18.3 million.

Ranking third place amongst MoviePass members, was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows. Accounting for 10.74% of member check-ins, this sequel to the 2014 live action film took first place at the domestic box office, earning $35.3 million. Compared to the $65.6 million opening weekend of the franchise’s first installment, the sequel seems to have lost some steam amongst moviegoers, but we’ll always go to the theater to see our favorite giant turtles battle the bad guys!

In fourth place, is last week’s member favorite, X-Men Apocalypse, accounting for 9.17% of member check-ins. With a weekend gross of $22.3 million and a firm hold on second place at the box office, X-Men Apocalypse is enjoying another week at the top! Coupled with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the film indicates that moviegoers and MoviePass members will always be faithful to their favorite comic books!

Rounding out the top five is the Cannes 2015 dark comedy, The Lobster, starring Colin Farrell. Accounting for 7.41% of this week’s member check-ins, the film experienced a 43% increase in popularity amongst MoviePass members. Perhaps, it’s the result of high critical praise? Or perhaps, its star studded cast—Rachel Weisz, Léa Seydoux, John C. Reilly–was part of the appeal.

What are we seeing this week? WarcraftNow You See Me 2The Conjuring 2! Luckily, there is something for everyone!  What’s at the top of your list?
